Getting there
Recommended way to reach Manali
Manali has no big airport. Fly to Delhi and take the overnight AC Volvo (12–14 h) — the most reliable and comfortable option — or fly to Chandigarh for a shorter 8–9 h road journey.
-
Chennai / Bengaluru
Take a morning flight, rest in Delhi, board the 5–7 pm Volvo. Our recommended route.
-
Kochi / Trivandrum / Madurai
Single-ticket one-stop flights available; ask us.
-
Chennai / Bengaluru
Shorter road leg; private cab or Volvo from Chandigarh.
-
Delhi
Fastest, but few flights and weather-dependent. Good for short trips.
Volvo buses depart Delhi's Majnu Ka Tila / Kashmere Gate in the evening and reach Manali early next morning. Luggage above the free allowance is charged by the bus operator. Your consultant will share exact timings for your dates.
Packing checklist
Your Manali checklist
Manali involves a long road journey and real cold — pack smart and the trip is effortless.
What to packWarm layers and road-trip comfort
Documents to carryDomestic travel — no passport needed
Leave behind / avoidCommon mistakes on a Manali trip
- Heavy or multiple suitcases — Volvo luggage space is limited and extra bags are charged. One bag per person plus a backpack is ideal.
- Single-use plastic — banned in Himachal Pradesh; carry a reusable bottle and cloth bag.
- Expecting an AC vehicle — hill cabs are non-AC (it is never needed); 4x4 jeeps are mandatory and extra when roads are snowbound.
- Skipping the Rohtang permit — it is limited and online; without it the drive ends at the barrier. Ask us to arrange it.
- Planning the trip in July – August — monsoon landslides regularly close the highway.
- Thin footwear — slippers are useless on snow and the Solang slopes.
